A beautiful pair of antique French creamware plates bearing the prestigious Creil et Montereau maker's mark with Médaille d'Or 1839 — one of France's most celebrated 19th-century ceramic manufacturers.
Each plate is decorated in the chinoiserie tradition with a black transfer-printed scene hand-highlighted in polychrome enamels: a two-tiered green-roofed pagoda, a decorative Chinese garden urn overflowing with flowers, willow trees, and a distant bridge and water. The wide border features black scrollwork with pink peonies, green florals, and gold ochre medallions.
The mark dates production to the Lebeuf & Cie partnership period, c. 1841–1876.
