A striking maritime oil on canvas by William Frederick Paskell (Boston, 1866–1951), one of New England's most prolific marine and landscape painters. This dynamic composition depicts a three-masted square-rigged ship under full sail, cutting through rough open seas beneath a dramatic cloudy sky — a subject Paskell returned to throughout his career and for which he is most celebrated.
Signed lower left "Wm. Paskell" in the artist's hand. Presented in the original carved and gilded wood frame.
Canvas (sight): 10.25" × 14" Framed: 12.75" × 16.75" Condition: Excellent — no visible losses, cracking, or restoration
Paskell immigrated to Boston from London at age six and by his twenties was exhibiting at the Boston Art Club alongside Childe Hassam. His marine paintings — particularly tall ships under sail — are highly sought by New England collectors and nautical art enthusiasts. Works attributed to him also appear under the pseudonym "T. Bailey," though this piece carries his full signed name, adding provenance value.
A rare opportunity to acquire a signed, excellent-condition Paskell marine oil from a Boston-area estate.
